The winning numbers for the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 were 3, 34, 37, 42 and 46, with a red Powerball of 20. The Power Play multiplier was 3x. According to Powerball, nobody hit the jackpot, but one ticket sold in Minnesota matched all five white balls with Power Play and won $2 million. The jackpot rolled over to an estimated $600 million for Saturday, October 17.

We're publishing this recap two days after the drawing, so the full national winners table is already final. Below: the numbers, every prize tier, the jackpot's growth this week, a few charts, after-tax values and a ticket-checking checklist. If you have a ticket from Wednesday that you haven't checked yet, now is a good time.

Jackpot and winners

Here's the headline information Powerball reported for the October 14 drawing:

  • Advertised jackpot: an estimated $566 million (annuity), with a cash value of about $231.9 million.
  • Jackpot winners: none. No ticket matched all five white balls plus the red Powerball 20.
  • Match 5 with Power Play ($2 million): one winning ticket, sold in Minnesota.
  • Match 5 without Power Play ($1 million): no winners.
  • Match 4 + Powerball: 12 tickets won $50,000, and three more tickets with Power Play won $150,000 each.

The Minnesota ticket is a good illustration of how Power Play works on the second prize. Normally, Power Play multiplies a non-jackpot prize by whatever multiplier is drawn. The Match 5 prize is the exception: with Power Play, it's always $2 million, no matter whether the multiplier is 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x. So even though Wednesday's multiplier was 3x, that ticket won $2 million, not $3 million. Without the $1 Power Play add-on, the same numbers would have paid $1 million.

Winners by prize tier

This is the full national winners table Powerball posted for the October 14 drawing. "Power Play winners" are tickets that won the same tier with Power Play added. Because the multiplier was 3x, those tickets collected three times the base prize, except at Match 5, where the Power Play prize is fixed at $2 million.

Adding up both columns, according to Powerball, 605,224 tickets won a prize in this drawing: 470,386 without Power Play and 134,838 with it. At the standard amounts in the table (California's pari-mutuel prizes can differ), that's roughly $6.9 million.

Where the prize money went

A few things stand out when you break the table down:

  • The red ball does most of the work. Tickets that matched only the Powerball, plus no white balls, made up 394,722 of the winners, about 65% of the total. Together they collected about $2.3 million, roughly a third of all the prize money.
  • Power Play tickets punched above their weight. Only about 22% of winning tickets had Power Play, but because of the 3x multiplier (and the $2 million Match 5 prize), those tickets accounted for about $4.2 million, around 61% of the estimated total.

How the jackpot has grown this week

The jackpot has now rolled through several drawings in a row. Here's how the advertised estimates have moved since our October 7 recap, using the figures Powerball lists on each drawing's results page.

DrawingEstimated jackpot (annuity)Cash valueJackpot won?
Wed., Oct. 7$485 million$199.7 millionNo
Sat., Oct. 10$519 million$212.9 millionNo
Mon., Oct. 12$541 million$221.7 millionNo
Wed., Oct. 14$566 million$231.9 millionNo
Sat., Oct. 17 (estimate)$600 million$246.0 million—

According to Powerball, the October 10 drawing also produced a $1 million Match 5 winner in California, and the October 12 drawing produced a $1 million Match 5 winner in the United Kingdom, where Powerball has been sold since July 2026. UK sales feed the same jackpot as U.S. sales.

Annuity vs. cash, in plain numbers

The headline number is always the annuity estimate: the total of 30 graduated payments over 29 years. The cash value is what's actually in the prize pool if a winner takes a single lump sum. For Wednesday's drawing, the $231.9 million cash value was about 41% of the $566 million annuity figure, and Saturday's estimate keeps the same ratio: $246.0 million is 41% of $600 million.

That ratio matters when you read jackpot headlines. From Wednesday to Saturday, the advertised jackpot rose by an estimated $34 million, but the cash value rose by about $14.1 million. If you want to understand which option makes sense in different situations, our guide to lump sum vs. annuity walks through the trade-offs.

Next drawing: Saturday, October 17, 2026

As of October 16, Powerball lists the next drawing as Saturday, October 17, 2026, with an estimated jackpot of $600 million and a cash value of about $246.0 million.

The drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. ET. Ticket sales close before that, and the exact cutoff depends on your state, so check your local lottery's rules if you plan to play. For drawing days, times and cutoffs in more detail, see our Powerball drawing schedule.

A bigger jackpot doesn't make any single ticket more likely to win. The odds of matching all six numbers are 1 in 292,201,338 whether the jackpot is $20 million or $600 million. If you do play, set an amount you're comfortable spending purely for entertainment and stick with it.

A quick look at the draw (trivia only)

The observations below are fun to point out, but they carry no predictive value. Every Powerball drawing is random and independent, and every one of the 292,201,338 possible combinations has the same chance of coming up next time. No number is ever "due."

  • Odd and even: two odd numbers (3 and 37) and three even numbers (34, 42 and 46).
  • Low and high: using 1–34 as "low" and 35–69 as "high," two numbers were low (3 and 34) and three were high (37, 42 and 46).
  • Sum: the five white balls add up to 162.
  • Consecutive numbers: none this time. The closest pair was 34 and 37.
  • Double Play: four odd numbers (11, 17, 37, 69) and one even (58), two low (11 and 17) and three high (37, 58, 69). Its white balls add up to 192.

How this draw compares with recent drawings

Here are the five most recent Powerball drawings through October 14, from the official New York State open-data results feed.

A simple way to see whether a result was ordinary is to look at the sum of the five white balls. With balls numbered 1 to 69, the long-run average sum is 175. The chart below shows the sum for each of the last 30 drawings alongside that average.

Wednesday's sum of 162 landed a little below the 175 line, which is about as unremarkable as a result can be. Across these 30 drawings, sums ranged from 93 (September 21) to 268 (August 29), 16 of the 30 came in below 175, and the average was almost exactly 175 (about 174.8). A run of low sums doesn't make a high sum more likely next time, and choosing numbers that "add up to around 175" doesn't change your chances.

How long since each number was last drawn

Another popular way to look at results is the "gap": how many drawings have passed since each white ball last appeared. This chart is current through October 14, so Wednesday's five numbers (3, 34, 37, 42 and 46) all show zero.

Going into Saturday, the longest current gaps belong to 43 (42 drawings), 48 (31 drawings), 60 (30 drawings) and 35 (29 drawings). With five balls drawn from 69, any given number appears in a particular drawing roughly one time in 14, so stretches of 30 or 40 drawings without a specific number happen all the time. The balls have no memory. 43 is exactly as likely to be drawn on Saturday as 37, which came up twice on Wednesday.

Power Play: back-to-back 3x

Wednesday's Power Play was 3x, the same as Monday's. Before that, the three previous drawings had all been 2x. Here's how often each multiplier has been drawn since the current format began in October 2015.

About 56% of drawings in this period produced a 2x multiplier and about 32% produced a 3x, so a 3x result is the second most common outcome by a wide margin. The 4x and 5x multipliers together account for about 10.6%, and 10x for just 1.4%, partly because 10x is only available when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less. With Wednesday's jackpot at $566 million, 10x wasn't in play.

Prize tiers and what 3x meant this time

Powerball has nine ways to win. This table shows the standard prize for each tier and what Wednesday's 3x Power Play did to it.

MatchPrizeWith Power Play 3x
5 white balls + PowerballJackpotJackpot (not multiplied)
5 white balls$1,000,000$2,000,000 (fixed)
4 white balls + Powerball$50,000$150,000
4 white balls$100$300
3 white balls + Powerball$100$300
3 white balls$7$21
2 white balls + Powerball$7$21
1 white ball + Powerball$4$12
Powerball only$4$12

Power Play costs an extra $1 per play on top of the $2 base price. It never multiplies the jackpot. California pays non-jackpot prizes on a pari-mutuel basis, so amounts there may differ. Double Play, available in participating jurisdictions for an extra $1, has its own prize table with a top cash prize of $10 million. For every tier and its odds, see the official prize chart on powerball.com.

What a winning ticket is worth after tax

The prizes above are before taxes. Here's how federal withholding works out for the bigger prizes won on Wednesday (illustrations only, not tax advice).

  • Match 5 with Power Play, $2,000,000. For U.S. citizens, lotteries withhold 24% federal tax on prizes over $5,000. On $2 million, that's $480,000, leaving about $1,520,000 before state tax. But a prize this size puts most of it in the top federal bracket of 37%, so the winner would likely owe significantly more when filing.
  • Match 4 + Powerball with Power Play, $150,000. Withholding at 24% is $36,000, leaving about $114,000 before state tax. Depending on other income, part of the prize could fall into a bracket above 24%.
  • Prizes of $5,000 or less. The $4, $7, $12, $21, $100 and $300 prizes aren't subject to federal withholding, but all lottery winnings are taxable income and should be reported.

State taxes vary a lot. Some states don't tax lottery winnings, while others withhold their own income tax on larger prizes. Check the rules for the state where the ticket was bought, and consider talking to a tax professional before spending a large prize. Our guide to Powerball taxes has worked examples, and the IRS explains gambling-income reporting in Topic No. 419.

How to check your ticket

Use these steps to check a ticket from the October 14 drawing:

  1. Confirm the date. Make sure your ticket is for Wednesday, October 14, 2026. If it's a multi-draw ticket, check which drawings it covers; it may still be active for Saturday.
  2. Compare the white balls. Your five white numbers can match 3, 34, 37, 42 and 46 in any order.
  3. Check the Powerball separately. Only your red Powerball counts toward a Powerball match, and it has to be 20. A 20 among your white numbers doesn't count.
  4. Check the add-ons. If you bought Power Play, multiply any non-jackpot prize by 3, except Match 5, which becomes $2 million. If you bought Double Play, check the same numbers against 11, 17, 37, 58, 69 and Powerball 9.
  5. Confirm it officially. Scan the ticket in your state lottery's app or at a retailer terminal. That's the only check that counts.

If you won, sign the back of the ticket right away and store it somewhere safe. A paper lottery ticket is generally treated as a bearer instrument, so whoever holds it can try to claim it.

Claim deadline reminder

Each state lottery sets its own claim deadline, and it usually counts from the drawing date. Those deadlines differ from state to state, so look up the rule where you bought your ticket rather than assuming. Your state lottery website lists exactly what to bring and where to go.

What were the Double Play numbers for October 14, 2026?

The Double Play numbers were 11, 17, 37, 58 and 69, with a Powerball of 9. Double Play is only offered in participating jurisdictions.

The bottom line

Wednesday's Powerball numbers were 3, 34, 37, 42, 46 and Powerball 20, with a 3x Power Play. No one won the jackpot, but a Minnesota ticket took home $2 million, and more than 600,000 tickets won something. The jackpot now stands at an estimated $600 million for Saturday. If you have a ticket from this drawing, check it carefully, sign it if it's a winner and note your state's claim deadline. Remember that a bigger jackpot doesn't improve the odds, so keep your spending within a budget you've set for fun. You must be 18 or older to play (older in some states).
